Liquor Licensing and Permitting

Michigan has some of the most complex liquor laws in the nation. The business attorneys at Fahey Schultz Burzych Rhodes PLC, however, have extensive experience navigating the complexity of Michigan liquor license acquisitions and transfers. Our attorneys obtained liquor licenses for our clients in countless counties and for establishments of all sizes. Notably, we represent:

  • National restaurant and hotel chains
  • Local independent owner/operators in various areas of the hospitality industry
  • On premises liquor licensing
  • Off premises liquor licensing
  • Golf Course liquor licensing

We have extensive experience in the Michigan Liquor Control Code and the procedures for obtaining or transferring a liquor license in Michigan. In addition to acquiring licenses, we also:

  • Counsel sellers of Michigan liquor licenses
  • Assist banks in transferring licenses when foreclosing on a security interest
  • Assist bankruptcy trustees in operating and/or liquor license transfer
  • Represent hospitality industry operators in connection with management and operating agreement matters.

Our firm has developed a strong relationship with the Michigan Liquor Control Commission staff and commissioners as we work with them daily. Our lawyers also formed connections with local government units throughout the state of Michigan that assist our clients in gaining the local approval needed to successfully transfer a liquor license.
