Stephen Rhodes - Energy Attorney Michigan

Stephen J. Rhodes has specialized in energy law, public utilities, and appeals for 27 years.  He has been recognized by the Best Lawyers of America for appeals, and is one of the firm's founding members. Steve worked at the Michigan Court of Appeals for two years, mostly as the Judicial Clerk for the Chief Judge. Throughout that time, Steve worked exclusively on appellate matters, including complex commercial and regulatory cases.

In his current practice, Steve continues to focus on complex commercial and regulatory appeals, particularly utility regulation issues involving service and rates for electricity, renewable energy, natural gas, municipal water systems, and sanitary and storm sewers. He has been involved in extensive litigation before trial and appellate courts throughout Michigan, including some of the most significant utility and municipal cases before the Michigan Court of Appeals and Supreme Court.  Steve also was a member of the State Bar of Michigan's Appellate Practice Council from 2006 to 2012.

Admitted to practice: All Michigan state courts; the United States Supreme Court, Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan.

Education: Wayne State University Law School, graduating cum laude, and admitted to the Order of the Coif; Oakland University, graduating magna cum laude with a major in economics.

Recognition: Steve has been recognized by the Best Lawyers in America since 2013 in the areas of Administrative/Regulatory Law and Energy Law and has maintained a Super Lawyers recognition since 2017 in the practice areas of Energy & Natural Resources, Appellate, and Administrative Law.
