Sheralee has over two decades of experience as an employment lawyer focusing on pro-active management advice. Her practice areas include Employment Law, Employment Litigation, and harassment investigations. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Virginia, and later from the University of Virginia School of Law. Sheralee started her legal career with the Labor and Employment Law Department of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius in its New York office after clerking there as a summer associate. From New York City, she relocated to Lansing, Michigan, and practiced law with Foster, Swift, Collins & Smith, P.C. in its Lansing and Grand Rapids offices, then with Lewis, Reed & Allen in Kalamazoo.

Sheralee’s work routinely involves preparation of pre-employment and personnel forms, employment policies, employee handbooks and employment and separation agreements. She has extensive experience with defense of employment discrimination claims (agency claims and litigation), including related contract and tort claims such as whistleblower, tortious interference, defamation, and retaliation claims. She drafts employment and separation agreements, confidentiality and non-compete agreements, and independent contractor agreements. She routinely assists employers with investigation and resolution of employment harassment claims. Areas of work also include wage and hour claims, Family and Medical Leave Act issues, and employment screening and recordkeeping. Her clients include employers in various industries; small businesses, health care organizations, manufacturing, non-profit, and municipalities, to name a few.

Sheralee is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the State Bar of New York, and also a member of the United States District Court of the Western District of Michigan and of the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.

Sheralee is a member of the Kalamazoo County Bar Association and the Society for Human Resources Management. She is a past Vice President and Interim President of Temple B’Nai Israel’s Board of Trustees, a former Board member and committee member for Arc Community Advocates of Kalamazoo, a Volunteer Mentor at Portage Northern High School, and a former Chair of the TBI Religious School Advisory Committee. Sheralee and her husband, Professor Mark S. Hurwitz, PhD, JD, have three grown children, who make them proud and keep them busy.
