Helen E. R Mills - Michigan Labor Attorney

Helen "Lizzie" Mills joined Fahey Schultz Burzych Rhodes PLC in 2010 after graduating second in her class, receiving her law degree magna cum laude from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. She is now admitted to practice in all Michigan state and federal courts and a member of the State Bar of Michigan and Federal Bar Association.

Lizzie’s practice focuses on municipal law, labor and employment law, and general litigation. This twin-focused practice enables Lizzie to provide advice and counsel on a day-to-day basis on the issues municipalities and employers face: how to operate a business or provide for a community while providing first-rate, cost-effective service to customers and tax payers.  Her municipal practice involves drafting and enforcing ordinances, preparing legal opinions, and addressing the issue du jour for the many townships with whom she works. Lizzie’s labor and employment law practice focuses on representing municipal and private sector management.  She has gained extensive experience in collective bargaining and in grievance and interest arbitration, as well as handling administrative claims involving the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Michigan Department of Civil Rights, state and federal wage and hour divisions, and the like.

While in law school, Lizzie earned 11 Certificates of Merit—the highest honor for academic performance in a course. In 2008, the Thomas M. Cooley Journal of Practical and Clinical Law published a scholarly article Lizzie wrote as a student. In 2010, she served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Thomas L. Ludington, District Court Judge in the Eastern District of Michigan. Also in 2010, Lizzie was awarded one of the inaugural "book award" scholarships given by the Real Property Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan for excellence in advanced property law courses.

Lizzie received her undergraduate degree summa cum laude from Saginaw Valley State University.  Lizzie is completing training and certification to become a mediator.  She and her family reside in Victor Township near Laingsburg, Michigan, where they enjoy hiking, biking, running, and being out on a lake.
